چکیده

Crosstalk is a major problem inmodern DSL systems such as VDSL.Many crosstalk cancellation techniques have been proposed to helpmitigate crosstalk, but whilst they lead to impressive performance gains, their complexity grows with the square of the number of lines within a binder. In binder groups which can carry up to hundreds of lines, this complexity is outside the scope of current implementation. In this paper, we investigate partial crosstalk cancellation for upstream VDSL. The majority of the detrimental effects of crosstalk are typically limited to a small subset of lines and tones. Furthermore, significant crosstalk is often only seen from neighbouring pairs within the binder configuration. We present a number of algorithms which exploit these properties to reduce the complexity of crosstalk cancellation. These algorithms are shown to achieve the majority of the performance gains of full crosstalk cancellation with significantly reduced run-time complexity.

Low complexity crosstalk cancellation through line selection in upstream VDSL

Crosstalk is the major source of performance degradation in VDSL. A number of crosstalk cancellation techniques have been proposed to address this. Whilst these schemes lead to large performance increases they also have high run-time complexities, a problem which grows rapidly with the number of lines within a binder. Since the majority of crosstalk typically comes from only a few dominant cros...

Iterative Joint Power Control and Partial Crosstalk Cancellation in Upstream VDSL

Crosstalk is the major limiting issue in very high bitrate digital subscriber line (VDSL) systems in terms of bit-rate or service coverage. At the central office side, joint signal processing accompanied by appropriate power allocation enables complex multiuser processors to provide near capacity rates. Unfortunately complexity grows with the square of the number of lines within a binder, so by...

Performance Analysis of a Common-Mode Signal based Low-Complexity Crosstalk Cancellation Scheme in Vectored VDSL

In this article, we propose a vectored system by using both common mode (CM) and differential mode (DM) signals in upstream VDSL. We first develop a multi-input multi-output (MIMO) CM channel by using the single-pair CM and MIMO DM channels proposed recently, and study the characteristics of the resultant CM-DM channel matrix. We then propose a low complexity receiver structure in which the CM ...

Soft Cancellation via Iterative Decoding to Mitigate the effect of Home-LANs on VDSL (333R1)

Previous contributions [1], [2] have reported on the performance of a maximum-likelihood based joint detection of VDSL signals and Home LAN signals that share the frequency band between 5 and 10 MHz. The methods described were promising in that they show it is possible to mitigate the effect of a Home LAN signal on VDSL almost entirely if a small fraction (3%) of the VDSL band was judiciously s...
